Been looking forward to drawing the expressions on this page of O Human Star for a while now!
And here’s an update on the Kickstarter to print O Human Star Volume One: we’re almost 60% funded, and the limited levels to get the hardcover edition and the exclusive 18+ comic are going fast. So hop on those!
Wanna know something interesting about this page of O Human Star? I spent longer than usual finding reference for “split hook prosthetic arm holding wine glass” and it still took me less than half an hour. (Turns out there are folks who make videos of themselves doing daily tasks with different prostheses for the benefit of other prosthesis users.)
With the research tools at our disposal today, there is no reason for a cartoonist to shy away from writing a character with a background or culture or medical condition unfamiliar to them. None at all.
Hi everyone! I returned home from Rose City Comic Con last night and I’ve got a couple things to update you on. First of all, I was shortlisted for Autostraddle’s first ever comic award, which is super cool!
Secondly, O Human Star is going to resume updates on Thursday, October 2nd. I have a few loose ends I need to tie up, such as the September Patreon sketchbook and a few super duper secret things. But October is going to be a very exciting month for OHS readers, so keep an eye out!
Soooo my annual fall allergies decided to take it to a whole new level this year. On Thursday my right eye became so dry that it couldn’t handle any sort of mildly bright light, and I couldn’t focus on anything for more than 10 seconds without leaking tears all over the place. That meant working on the next OHS page was impossible, and I had to spend the weekend wearing giant Cool Guy sunglasses whenever I went outside. Not fun!
I’m off to the eye doctor tomorrow and hopefully they can help me get back to normal in time for SPX this weekend. If I’m lucky I can have the next page done before I leave!
And O Human Star returns today with a new flashback! Al’s scraping the bare minimum of cocktail attire here.
Thank you very much for your patience as I took a week off from updates. I was able to make progress on some very big projects that I plan to talk more about soon.
And for new followers, check out my Patreon, where I post exclusive drawings and sketchbooks every month. I have decided that if I hit at least $400 in pledges this month, I will donate all of it to The Bridge for Youth, a non-profit that provides emergency services and housing to Twin Cities teens with special programs for LGBTQ kids. They’re in the neighborhood and I’ve seen the good that they do.
